Red Bull Junior driver Jehan Daruvala , who is currently driving for PREMA Powerteam in F2 successfully completed his F1 testing with McLaren . If he gets a place in F1 , he will only be the 3rd driver from India to enter F1 after Karun Chandhok and Narain Karthikeyan .
The 23 year old Indian racer completed the testing in 2021 MCL35M around the Silverstone circuit . Daruvala racked up a combined tally in excess of 130 laps over the course of two days .These laps helped him to gather sufficient points to obtain FIA Super license, which is a requisite to race in F1 .
After completing the testing , Jehan said , ” “I really enjoyed my first time driving a Formula One car. I felt immediately at home and while it was physically more demanding than anything I have driven in the past, I didn’t have any issues with my fitness .”
He revealed that the testing gave him a fairly good understanding of how an F1 weekend looks like .
“As a result, we were able to work through the run plan well and complete everything we had mapped out. We did a mixture of high-fuel long runs and as well as shorter, low-fuel runs on different tyre compounds. That gave me a good understanding of how teams operate on an F1 weekend.
“Overall, I’m very pleased with how the two days went, how I coped and the mileage we were able to complete. I felt I was able to push closer to the limit with every lap and I can’t wait to drive one of these cars again,” he added.
He thanked everyone for making this happen on his twitter . He posted ,” What a couple of days it’s been!… An unreal experience driving a Formula 1 car for the first time around Silverstone 🤩👌🏽 A big thank you again to everyone that made this happen, I had lots of fun and learned so much in just two days ✅”
Jehan Daruvala ,currently is in good form with five top-three finishes from six rounds this season and is third in the F2 Drivers’ Championship .
