Fernando Alonso’s F1 contract with Alpine ends this year .The two time world champion returned to F1 last season after a 2 year break from F1 championship .
Alonso will turn 41 this month and is still confident to continue racing . He has finished P5 in British GP , P9 in Canadian GP, consecutive P7 in Azerbaijan GP and Monaco GP and produced similar performance so far.
He has driven the longest distance in F1 , a whooping 92,643km , which is 2.3 times around the earth .
Regarding the talks on his seat , Alonso revealed that he is willing to wait till the summer break as he wants to concentrate on the racing now .
He said , ” So far, yeah, we didn’t start any negotiations .My aim, as I said some times, is to continue, but yeah, until the summer break, I want to concentrate [on racing].
“This July, we have four races, and I need to score points because the first nine races have been a little bit unlucky for me.”
Alpine F1 boss Otmar Szafnauer also revealed that they would start talking about Alonso’s F1 deal after the summer break . Alpine currently have Formula2 champion Oscar Piastri waiting for a place in F1 in 2023 .
Otmar Szafnauer said , “Because the season goes so late, in the old days, when we finished in October, the silly season was a bit earlier .But now, yeah, we’re not going to December, but not far off. That’s good timing .
“He’s [Alonso] driving brilliantly and qualifies well, races well. That’s what it’s really about. But let’s think about that.”
