THE WINNER :
Max Verstappen won his first Azerbaijan Grand Prix , his 25th career win and became the most successful Red Bull driver with 66 podiums. He showed superior race pace and error free driving to clinch the lead from his team mate Sergio Perez .
Max Verstappen now leads the Drivers’ Championship with 150 points followed by his team mate Sergio Perez with 129 points .
In a tweet , Verstappen said , “That was a good race!! We had incredible pace today .To have another maximum team score makes it a really good day for us @redbullracing .It was a challenging weekend for us here in Baku, so to win this one feels absolutely great ! .”
Double DNF for Ferrari :
Ferrari suffered a double DNF in Azerbaijan GP . Carlos Sainz was the first to leave the race with a hydraulic failure in lap 9 followed by a engine failure for Charles Leclerc in Lap 20.
This DNF means that Ferrari are on the backseat as Red Bull are now leading constructor standings by a huge gap .Pole-sitter Charles Leclerc was devastated after the engine failure.
He said , “I am more than frustrated, obviously .Another DNF – it hurts… We really need to look into that for it to not happen again .”
Lewis Hamilton’s Tough Race :
Lewis Hamilton battled it hard with back pain caused by porpoising issue in the car to finish P4 from P7 to become “DRIVER OF THE DAY ” with 14.8% votes for him . Hamilton revealed that he was praying for the race to end and was able to finish the race only because of adrenaline .
Hamilton on Instagram said ,”Yesterday was tough and had some troubles sleeping but have woken up feeling positive today. Back is a little sore and bruised but nothing serious, thankfully.I’ll be there this weekend, wouldn’t miss it for the world. Wishing everybody an amazing day and week.”
Half Broken DRS Flap :
Alpha Tauri driver Yuki Tsunoda was on the way to score his first points of the season , but with only half of his DRS flap opening he was forced to get back to the pits to fix the issue .They fixed the broken DRS with duct tape as a temporary solution.
Tsunoda said , “I’m really disappointed today. Until the reliability issue the race was going really well for me, we were really in control of the tyres and the pace was good, so I think we could’ve easily finished in P6 today.”
