Mercedes AMG F1 are slowly make a strong progress and are back in hunt for their 9th World Constructors Championship .
The latest and first double podium finish this season for Mercedes in French GP clearly shows that the team is heading in the right direction after having a difficult start to the season .
Both the Mercedes drivers managed their tyres brilliantly as the team decided to do a one stop strategy .Lewis Hamilton finished P2 starting from P4 on the grid and George Russell finished P3 starting from P6 .
The team has now closed the gap in the constructors’ championship . They are just 44 points behind Ferrari and 126 points behind Red Bull.
Hamilton, who completed his 300th Grand Prix in a recent interview said that there is more to come from Mercedes in the upcoming races. He said, “It’s been really positive to have some consistency come back in and bit by bit you’re getting a little bit more comfortable in the car.
“And also with the direction where you set the car up… where you position the car, what the car will accept. Obviously, it bit me in the last race with the crash in qualifying.
“Otherwise, as I said, we’re constantly adding performance, we’re constantly progressing forwards and there’s a lot to come in the next races. So I’m excited about that and as I said, in the last race we were only a few tenths off the lead guys in qualifying so I think slowly we’re getting closer.
“The gap may be bigger in some tracks, who knows, but… in [Austria], I was seeing it on TV, as I said, the battle up ahead, I hope that I get to be a bit more in the battle sometime soon.”
Lewis Hamilton team mate George Russell revealed that the team needs to improve their qualifying performance as they are lacking consistency in qualifying . He said , “We’re doing everything we can to improve the performance of the car and we believe we are on the right path, so we’re excited what the next races can bring for us.
“We’re making progress and there is still more to come, thanks to everyone back at the factories in Brackley and Brixworth for their hard work and dedication. “
Mercedes will be hoping for a similar performance in their next race at Hungarian GP scheduled for this weekend .
