Andretti Autosport , which is hopeful of creating a new F1 team “Andretti Global” has already applied to the FIA and awaiting their nod .
Mario Andretti was seen in Miami GP lobbying with teams in the paddock . In a chat with SkySportsF1 , he said , “I can tell you one thing, it’s not for the lack of trying” .
“We’re on it , no question about it . There’s a process that we are respecting . We’re trying to check all the boxes we’re expected to be checking and the objective is to be there , to be on the grid in 2024 .”
“We have a big , huge team that can make this happen .Time is of the essence , no question .”
“I Think all the ingredients are in place .[We] 100 percent have the budget and the engine supplier (Renault).”
Andretti wants to build a F1 team with American drivers and an American built car .
The real hurdle :
The real problem in fielding Andretti Global is the current structure in payout , which is designed to split the prize fund among the 1o teams .So introducing an 11th team without changing the current structure would cost the present teams extra money .
Mercedes Team Principal Toto Wolff said that the current teams have invested considerable amounts over the last 10 years so any new team must demonstrate that you’re bringing in more money than it’s actually costing .Only then they can cheer for such an entry .
RedBull Team Prinipal Christian Horner echoed the same , “It makes total logical sense to say that the 10 teams or 10 franchises have an intrinsic value and you dilute that by increasing the number.”
He also said that Liberty Media could reduce their own share if they wanted to bring in more teams .
Whereas McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown and Alpine CEO Laurent Rossi expressed support for the entry if it can prove valuable to F1 .
