Mercedes rolled back it’s sponsorship deal worth four million euros per annum with Kingspan, an Irish firm .
The decision was taken amidst huge outcry from all sides .
Grenfell Tower fire disaster
- A fire broke out in 24-storey Grenfell Tower on 14th June 2017 .
- The fire was the worst UK residential fire since World War II .
- 72 people were killed in the fire .
Last week ,Mercedes announced a deal with Kingspan , which had links to the 2017 London disaster .
Grenfell United , the group which represents survivors and bereaved people expressed their displeasure to Mercedes boss Toto Wolff and asked him to sever all ties immediately .
UK secretary of State for levelling up, housing and communities ,Michael Gove warned Mercedes that British government could change advertising and sponsorship laws for Firmula1.
The degree of outrage forced Mercedes boss Wolff to apologies and agreed to an in-person meeting with Grenfell United group .
A statement from Mercedes on Wednesday reads “The Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 team and Kingspan today announced that they have mutually agreed to end their partnership.”
“Announced last week, the new partnership included Kingspan chairing a new Sustainability Working Group for the team , and aimed to deliver carbon reductions through their leading-edge environmentally sustainable solutions for the team’s future campus.”
“However ,both parties have subsequently concluded that it is not appropriate for the partnership to move forward at the current point in time , notwithstanding its intended positive impact ,and we have therefore agreed that it will be discontinued with immediate effect .”
