Teams favoring a single driver has been a long standing practice with F1 teams , which we believe is absurd and kind of not sportsmanship . The drivers of a team have to be given fair chances and same setup of cars during a race and the best one on the day must win for the team .
Though favoritism is in all the F1 teams , it can be seen clearly on top teams such as Mercedes, Red Bull and Ferrari . A classic example being Valtterri Bottas was made to switch places with Lewis Hamilton in crucial races to help Lewis gain advantage in the Driver’s championship . It is like all their efforts are just taken away from them at the finishing stages of the match .
Red Bull using Sergio Perez to cover Max Verstappen ,and only helping Max Verstappen to finish ahead of Sergio Perez to help Max win the Driver’s championship .
F1 does include the importance of the driver , but Formula1 being a complete team sport , it includes everyone from the factory , data analyst , engineers , pit crew and a lot more of them to get the car to the finish line . We believe only the F1 constructor championship must be taken in to account and F1 driver championship must be abandoned .
A simple team order asking the leading driver to switch places with the following driver , will drastically bring down the morale of the driver in front and for the audience who are watching the race , it is not worth entertaining .
Removing the F1 drivers championship can boost a driver’s performance as they will only race for the team and keen on getting points for the team rather than for their own benefit .
With lot of regulations introduced in 2022 season , F1 has become interesting with many over takes and mixed winners .FIA should start taking strict action against teams focusing on a single driver, and using the other driver only for the sake of points .Using the other driver only for points is also a kind of racism , which must be abolished .
Regarding the driver market , the drivers must be assessed only based on their individual performance and not on their championships . Classic example being Four time world Champion Sebastian Vettel , who has not won Driver’s championship after leaving Red Bull , it clearly shows F1 is a team sport and Driver’s championship is just an absurd and not required .
