Honda returns to Formula1

Honda which supplied engines to Red Bull Racing, quit F1 last season .

Honda will make a official comeback to F1 this year ,not as an engine supplier , but as a title sponsor for 2022 Japanese Grand Prix .

Suzuka circuit tweeted , “Honda Motor Co., Ltd. has been selected as the title sponsor of this year’s F1 Japan Grand Prix. As a result, it will be held under the name of “2022 FIA F1 World Championship Series Honda Japan Grand Prix Race”.Ticket sales information is scheduled for early June, and general sales are scheduled for late July.”

This will be the first race to be held in Suzuka since 2019, as the previous two editions of Japanese Grand Prix were cancelled due to corona virus pandemic .The Japanese Grand Prix will be held on October 07-09, 2022.

Communications operating executive Koji Watanabe of Honda said , “It is a great pleasure for Honda to be named as the title sponsor of the F1 Japanese Grand Prix to be held at the Suzuka Circuit, which is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year .”

Though Honda has quit F1 last season , it will continue to produce , assemble, maintain and support Red Bull Racing by supplying engines under the brand name of “Red Bull Powertrains” .
